She kept running, even though she was fast loosing strength. Her bowels were open and she used her hands to hold her intestines in. One part of her wanted to give up, lie down and die. The other part wanted to keep trying to make it to where they where other human.
What had she done to merit such vehemence? They had cut open her stomach even as she cried for mercy. The most painful thing was his betrayal, she had trusted him to save her, but he had looked on while they tried to kill her. As she ran, she looked ahead, trying to gauge the distance before she got to the main road, then she saw him coming from the opposite direction, the look on his face far from friendly, Sammmuuueelll! She screamed as she fell to the ground.
Lima woke with a start, thank God it was a dream, she was covered in sweat, she felt her stomach, no wound. her bowels were intact! Gosh, even the realisation that it was a dream did not take away the horror of knowing that her Sweetheart had watched while his friends cut her up!.What was her crime? She couldn’t even remember. She had dreamt this same dream several times. Each time, she fell into a bout of depression that lasted days.
How could she reconcile the love he professed, the love they had shared for so many years with this look of nonchalance on his face in the dream. Yet he had never as Much as raised his hands against her in real life.
The only day he had done something scary was sometime close to when their relationship had packed up. She had left the house at night following a sudden desire to see him. On getting there, they had lain side by side, hardly talking. Their conversation was strained, yet she didn’t want to leave. As it grew darker ,she asked him to see her off. He initially kept silent. When he woke up, he went to his travelling bag and rummaged in the dark, “what are you looking for?” She asked. ” A gun ,” he answered.
Without knowing why, she became scared. He had never hurt her,but then then she had never admitted that she was seeing someone else. Could he really hurt her because of that?
” Are you scared”, he asked her. ” Should I be?” She asked.
After what seemed like an eternity, he stood up and said “let’s go.” Without looking back, she stood up.
He put his hand under the pillow and pulled out what he had removed from his bag and slipped under the pillow, it was a torchlight!
As they walked back in silence, she wondered why he had said it was a gun, she wondered more why she had believed him. Perhaps it was because the dreams had started already, sadly she couldn’t find the words to tell him what he had done to her in her dreams.
