In furtherance of their appeal for the President’s assent to the bill seeking to establish the Federal University of Technology Ogoja,Ogoja youths took over the Unity fountain in Abuja to press home their appeal.
The rally which was held under the aegis of Greater Ogoja youths initiative under the Leadership of Michael Udam called on the President to ease the suffering of the youths in Ogoja many of whom cannot afford to go to University because of the cost and distance from Universities which offer engineering and technology courses and grant their yearning for passage of the bill which has less than 30 days to elapse.
“Ogoja people are compelled to request for the establishment of a university of technology given the Federal Government’s well-intentioned disposition for the development of science and technology in the country.
“Ogoja was promised a university as early as 1975 but was shortchanged on the grounds of a minor disagreement between communities,’’ .
Mr Slater Udam who spoke on behalf of the youths thanked the member representing Ogoja/ Yala in the National Assembly, Hon Jarigbe Agom for moving the motion which he described as a demonstration of foresight and commended his support so far in his first tenure in the house of representatives.
They also commended Senator Rose Oko for her support so far and appealed for her continued efforts to see the dream of a better Ogoja come to fruition.
Other Ogoja youths who spoke all posited that the President’s assent to the bill would guarantee the Ogoja people a sense of belonging and help to remove Cross River state from the list of educationally less developed states.
The rally which was peaceful was characterized by chants of the song” all we are saying, give us FUTOG”.
