TEACHERS HANDOVER BATON TO PARENTS_Ada Nkong

Looking at the faces of the students dragging their boxes and baskets down the main lane of the school, one would think that there was no other joy to compare to the joy of going on vacation.
The parents too, looked ecstatic, they would no longer need lengthy explanations to gain access to their children. Summer holidays are here and for 6 good weeks, it would be bonding time for parents and children.
For the teachers, it is a rest well earned. No more having to attend to the numerous issues that come from students. Taking care of hundreds of children with their diverse characters is a different ball game from attending to two or four biological kids of yours.
There has been serious debate over if the holiday lessons are good since holidays are meant for rest and recreation. Most schools also give holiday projects to prevent students from playing excessively. The fact remains that students need a break from school work.
If resources are available, taking a vacation is not a bad idea. Travel provides opportunity for learning. It is also useful for broadening the child’s knowledge of culture and tradition. On a low budget however, parents should plan fun activities like picnics, hiking, movies etc to create memories the child will treasure.
Teachers too should use this opportunity to pursue other interest like learning a skill, visiting friends and relatives etc.
Holidays are opportunities to leave more, outside the constraints of school and work stress. Make it count.
