President Muhammadu Buhari is reported to have summoned Governors Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State, Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State and Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos state.
The six governors might have been summoned to a meeting at Aso Rock by the President, sources said.
The summons made to the six governors, according to sources is due to the launch of a new security outfit, codenamed Amotekun by the six governors in the geopolitical region
It was gathered that the six governors, had last year agreed to establish a security outfit that will put a stop to the insecurity situation in the region.
Sources said Presidency asked the six governors to attend a meeting at Aso Rock to discuss the details of Amotekun and why it should be allowed to fly.
The outfit, our correspondent gathered is a local collaborative security agency jointly established by Oyo, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Ekiti and Osun states.
Its idea generated from a security summit organized by the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission in July at the wake of heightened kidnapping and armed robbery mostly on highways in the region.
Its personnel will include members of the vigilante group in each state, security experts and conventional security agencies including the police and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). They are to gather intelligence and effect arrest where relevant, with the overall goal of improving security in the region.
But, all efforts made to confirm the apparent summon of the Governors from the spokespersons to two of the Governors proved abortive.
