In view of its proximity with the FCT and the need to stop the spread of the Coronavirus, the Nassarawa state Governor Engr. Abdullahi Sule has ordered a curfew from Thursday 2nd April 2020.
Although there are no cases yet in the state, the Governor said it had become necessary to step up measures to maintain the status quo.
“As you are aware, report from the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the Federal Ministry of Health, indicates that the spread of the Coronavirus disease is raising on an alarming proportion. Although, Nasarawa State has not recorded any incidence, it behoves on us to take more stringent measures in order to prevent the spread of the virus in the State”.
The Curfew is a 24 hour curfew that is to last for 14 days.
“Enforcement of a 24 hour curfew in Karu Local Government Area with effect from 6:00pm of Thursday, 2nd April, 2020 for 14 days in the first instance;”
“Entry into Nasarawa State is hereby restricted to between 6:00pm to 6:00am and all persons coming into the State shall continue to be screened at the designated check-points/mobile clinics;”
“Movement in Lafia, the State capital and other Urban centres are hereby restricted from 8:00pm to 6:00am with effect from Thursday, 2nd April, 2020.”
By the directive, Markets are to remain closed “except sellers of food items and medicaments outside the markets except in Karu Local Government Area where there is a 24 hour curfew;”
Civil servants between level 1-12 were also directed to work from home.
The Governor urged all to comply with all safety measures as laid down by the Federal government and other relevant authorities.
