To prevent accidents along the Lagos-Ibadan rail corridor and protect residents of communities along the rail line, the Minister of transportation Rotimi Amaechi has emphasized the need for synergy between the States and Federal government in provision of level crossings.

Speaking after the monthly inspection tour of the Lagos Ibadan rail project, the Minister said the communities had expressed concern about the number of under and over passes as well as erosion caused by the standard gauge.

” What I want is for the engineers to take a study village by village of what impact our rail lines must have caused these ccommunities vis a vis our environmental impact assessment “.

The Chairman Nigerian Railway corporation board , Engr Ibrahim Musa clarifying the issue said the ccorporation is working hand in hand with the Lagos, Oyo and Ogun state governments to ensure there are enough level crossings.

Responding to the issue of perimeter fencing, the Minister expressed dismay tthat miscreants are sabotaging efforts to secure the rail corridors by fencing.

” if you look at the Warri- Itakpe- Warri line, you will see that we are fencing and the communities are breaking it down. We are having problems with it.We are also fencing Kaduna -Abuja. We will find where we suspect more human interference like Lagos”.

The Minister expressed satisfaction with the level of work done on the stations. He said the project will be commissioned as new year gift to Nigerians.
