The MD Nigerian Railway corporation,Engineer Fidet Okhiria has confirmed the vandalization of Warri-Itakpe rail track.
Okhiria who spoke to our correspondent in a telephone interview said the perpetrators have not yet been caught.
A viral video circulating on social media shows slices through the rail track appeared to have been cut with a saw and some parts removed in several sections which could cause accidents and endanger passengers.
According to the MD vandals have been apprehended in the past in some other areas but the current incident is along the Warri-Itakpe standard gauge line around KM 30 Adogo, Kogi State section of the rail.
He confirmed that the train is still operating as there was an alternative.
Okhiria appealed to Nigerians to stop vandalizing government property as this will cause money meant for other projects to be used for repairs which is not in the best interest of Nigerians.
He appealed to Nigerians to safe guard the rail and report anybody seen with rail materials to the nearest police station.
