I don’t know what I expected but I just knew it would not be ordinary or your every day experience as a journalist covering a minister.
His screening at the senate had been full of drama and suspense plus he had earned a reputation as governor of Rivers state that preceded him to Abuja.
Listening to him on his first day as Minister when he sounded a warning that he does not desire to be patronized and will not entertain tale bearing to gain favors I was amused because in the Nigerian civil service those things are a given.
Gradually though it became clear that this politician meant business and would rather work than talk.
The painstaking supervision of the rail projects under his watch left the Chinese no choice than to tag him a one of a kind minister.
I gained perspective hearing him tell the engineers who would rather opt for the easy way out than to think out of the box along with his suggestions to improve the project that ” it is my job to create problems, it is your job to solve them”.
In Rivers state as governor, he left a trail of projects ranging from education to health and even infrastructure.
