As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to celebrate the International widows day,the lawmaker representing Ogoja/mbube constituency in the Cross River state house of assembly has called on all to support widows.
In a message on his Facebook page, Odey said it is necessary to fight the maltreatment widows go through.
“As we celebrate widows across the globe we must be reminded that widows must be supported and given the needed helping hand they need to survive in the society. “
“The loss of a husband is very devastating and demoralizing. It is our responsibility to gives widows a shoulder to lean on in anyway we can by fighting against the many ill treatment that they go through”.
The lawmaker emphasized the need to give widows a voice.
According to him,” voices of widows in Cross River and indeed Ogoja must be heard and recognized.”
Meanwhile a widow from Ogoja constituency also on Facebook, celebrated herself for bearing the responsibility of both father and mother alone.
According to Vera, a young widow it takes strength of mind and resilience to be what she described as a “one man squad”
