
As part of activities to mark the 2021 international day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking, Team WASD, an NGO advocating for an end to drug abuse in Nigeria held a summit for secondary school students in Karu LGA of Nasarawa state.
The event which was attended by students from St. Augustine school Mararaba, Ave Maria secondary school Maraaba and Kings academy was an interactive session with students sharing what they know about drug abuse .

Welcoming participants to the summit, the Coordinator Ojong Bichene Ogar described drug abuse as a pandemic and warned the students against falling prey.

According to him, though binge eating and overuse of handsets are also addictive, drug abuse causes a major setback in the lives of the children.
Several speakers gave talks on topics like drug abuse and consequences on girl child development which was handled by Mrs Agnes Ugorji and drug abuse,illicit trafficking: consequences on youth development by Victor Offiong.

The students in their feedback said they were happy to get more information on the subject and pledged to be role models to their peers.
The theme for this years celebration is Share facts, save lives. WASD is an acronym for war against self destruction.
