For someone used to physical activity like Playing football, it was a real shock when simple stuff like getting out of bed not only required an effort but was painful.
“It started in 2017, I slipped and fell down. Since then, I had been finding it difficult to get out of bed.”
” I play football every Saturday, each time I am kicked and I fall down for me to stand up it is always difficult and I am like what is going on with me?This is not me and I went to see a doctor and I was told the only way to find out what is wrong with you is to go for an cray and an MRI scan”.
All said and done, he was told there is a particular bone sticking out in his back and he had damaged two or 3 of his discs. They said its Lumbar spondylosis.

The doctor advised Tommy to go for a surgical procedure without which things would get worst. As it is, he was in a bad shape already.
“At a time ,I couldn’t come down from the bed. If I had to go to the gents,I had to crawl. If I fall down or lie on the bare floor to get up is very difficult.”
Movements like sitting, standing and working were painful and he felt like the movements made the bone sticking out of his back brush his nerves each time he moved causing pain.
An advocacy on a friends Instagram page was the breakthrough for him as a scheduled visit to India for the surgery had been scuttled by entry of a new variant of corona virus .
With the recommendation to Brain and spine surgery consortium in Abuja, he had the surgery done and saved himself the cost of a trip to India and the stress too. Better yet, he got his problem fixed and got good results.
” After the surgery, I was taught some routine ,how to move from one side to the other. It was difficult at first but o practiced and now its okay.”
“I had the operation two days ago,I couldn’t move yersterday but today they said you have to”. They taught me how and I am up and about”.
Comparing the experience at Brain and spine surgery with a previous one in London, Tommy thinks its the same service.
” I have had an operation before in London and I can vividly say its the same service. I don’t see nay difference going abroad”.
” I am really feeling better, the staff have been so nice, so wonderful”.
Thanks to Brain and spine surgery consortium, Tommy got his groove back!
