The Medical and Dental council of Nigeria disciplinary tribunal, Monday resumed hearing of cases filed against its members.
The tribunal under the chairmanship of Prof Abba Waziri heard cases ranging from negligence of duty to lack of professional conduct
The tribunal resumed hearing on Monday on 34 cases including an application for reinstatement into the medical practitioners register.
Some respondents were either not present or represented and their cases were adjourned .
The prosecution counsel however stressed the need for cases to be concluded in line with the administration of criminal justice act and also because the professional practice of individuals was at stake
One of the cases considered was that of Dr Stephen Enamine who was facing a two count charge of negligence and actions and inactions allegedly resulting in the death of a patient Mrs Agnes Omanuyoyodede a cancer patient, he pleaded not guilty to both charges.
The case was adjourned till Wednesday after both the defense and prosecution counsels had opened their cases.
Hearing will continue till Thursday 5th August 2021.The medical and dental council of Nigeria is the regulatory body for medical, dentistry and alternative medicine practice with a mandate to ensure ethics and professionalism is upheld in these fields.
