Medical and Dental Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal Erases Names of Three Doctors from Register_Ada Nkong


The medical and dental practitioners disciplinary tribunal Thursday ,in Abuja concluded the seating of the 8th session.
Briefing journalists after the seating, Chairman of the Tribunal, Dr Abba Hassan said , between January 2019 to date, the tribunal has held seven sessions with 3 doctors erased from the register of medical practitioners in Nigeria and twelve suspended from practice among other judgments.


The sitting of the 8th session of the medical and dental practitioners disciplinary tribunal began Monday in Abuja with a total of 34 cases to be attended to.
Cases ranged from gross misconduct in a professional respect to allegations of misconduct with charges like enticement of patient from another hospital, running private practice while under employment of government hospital to conducting self infamously with patient.

In a case involving Dr Rasheed Ayobami, video evidence was tendered but the respondents counsel objected to the fact that portions of the clips rather than the whole video was played. The tribunal ruled that the case be adjourned to the next sitting to give both parties adequate time to watch the full video.


Delivering judgment, while some doctors were suspended for either 3 months or six months, some were admonished having shown remorse.

Those suspended were Dr Umar Ibrahim 3 months (served) , Dr Nwikwu Mezie 6 months served, Dr Jamilu Mohammed 6 months served,Dr Godwin Maduakor 6 months Served Anunobi Ralu 6 months has appealed the decision and his suspension lifted pending determination,Dr Charles Ikeji 6 months served, Dr Terhrmba Lan 6 months served,Dr Mukaila Oladipo 3 moths served,Dr Sullyman Kokori 6months consecutively for a two count charge ,serving, Dr Stephen Alaiyemola 6 months served and Dr Adolphus Oraifo 6 months but passed on before enforcement.


Doctors erased from the register are Dr Yakubu Hassan, Dr Sunday Elusoji and Dr Stephen Alaiyemola. Dr Elusoji however has appealed the decision of the tribunal. 5 doctors were convicted and admonished, 10 doctors were discharged and acquitted while 7 doctors had their cases struck out.


The Chairman said those erased from the register can apply to the tribunal to be reinstated upon which letters will be given to them to serve under consultants for allocated periods for subsequent appraisal and recommendation.

The Medical and dental practitioners council regulates the practice of professionals in medicine, dentistry and alternative medicine.
