DG NSCC Pays Homage to Olubadan at 93 in Company of 90 year Old Ex- NRC Boss_Ada Nkong

The Director General, National Senior Citizens Centre, Dr Emem Omokaro was in Ibadan to pay homage to the Olubadan of Ibadan as he celebrates 93years.
She was accompanied by the first indigenous Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Pa Nathaniel Okoro who clocked 90 years.

During a train ride from Lagos to Ibadan on the new standard gauge rail, Pa Okoro commended the government for completing the standard gauge project and expressed delight at the development.

” I urge Nigerians to learn and understand the history of Nigeria to enable them appreciate the development that has taken place from the past so they can relate it to the present”.

“I am happy to see the success of the standard gauge railway project because I was invited by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2002 to draw a 25-year master plan for the development of Standard Gauge Railway line in Nigeria”.

“The report was submitted to Obasanjo in 2002 and after he left government, the report gathered dust. But we thank God that President Buhari-led administration resuscitated and implemented the project”.

On her part, the Director-General, National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC), Dr Emem Omokaro, assured the senior citizens of her commitment to ensuring a better quality of life for older persons . She said efforts were on to take care of senior citizens in terms of socials and recreation,income security, counselling and capacity enhancement.

Omokaro added that she had been talking with some health centres on how they could assist the aged and the senior citizens suffering from dementia and other old-age related diseases.

She said that the NSCC’s mission is to engage strategic multi-sector partnerships; research applications as well as initiate and develop facilities and implement programmes and services that would positively change the perception of aging.

According to the DG, ” It was an amazing opportunity to engage and dialogue with Senior Citizens and his Imperial Majesty Olubadan of Ibadan and to harvest inputs of their expectations of NSCC,

Dr Omokaro said “the novelty Train Cruise was organized by Family Ark Mission and University of Third Age,
NSCC was invited to join the ride”.
She appreciated Dr. David Oludare Mark of Family Ark Mission for the initiative.
