The Chief of Naval staff, Vice-Admiral AZ Gambo says the Nigerian navy has intensified efforts against all forms of threats. The CNS said this during his remarks at the 14th international security conference and awards organized by the international institute of professional security held at Nixon luxury hotel Abuja.
The CNS mentioned pirates and oil bunkers as top on the priority threats to be eliminated by the Navy adding that they will not relent in their efforts until all activities of security and economic saboteurs are completely eradicated.
On his part the representative of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adediran urged that security consciousness be taught to children starting with the instruction to request the identity of guests before opening doors.
The Director-General IIPS, Dr Tony Ofoyetan in his speech lamented that abduction and kidnappings have become major sources of terrorism financing. According to him, ” sadly, due to the enormous volume of monies generated through this means, the blood of the innocent has not ceased flowing”.
He expressed optimism that the discussions at the conference would proffer solutions to Nigeria’s security issues.
” Today core security technocrats are gathered to help find an antidote to this quagmire and chart a passable road for our beloved governments, security agencies and lovers of national peace and security”.
The conference which was graced by security experts from all over Nigeria and beyond had the Ooni of Ife any represented by Oba Adediran Solomon with the Oon’s staff of Office present.
Categories of awards at the conference include executive award, fellowship award, and outstanding award. A gold category ( award of excellence) recipient, Mr Jonathan Mbah expressed selightvat being found worthy of the award and said this will spur him to intensify his efforts towards contributing his quota to the quest to overcome the security challenged currently faced by the nation. Other awardees include the Ooni of Ife who was awarded the best security conscious royal father, the governor of Cross River State, Prof Ben Ayade who was awarded the best security conscious governor, and Hajiya Nana Gambo who was awarded Ambassador of peace and security.
The theme for this years conference is ” The business in Terrorism”.
