SOWENON, has called on Nigerians to put aside – ethnic, Religious and regional divide in order to focus on the rebirth of a new Nigerian nation and put in place a sustained agenda that will
provide a long-lasting affordable and culture of inclusive education programme for
the citizens.
SOWENON is an acronym of South, West, East and North of Nigeria, registered by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) as a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), Non profit making and Humanitarian Organisation. Its main objectives among others include promotion of good governance, Humanitarian services, job creation and women and youth empowerment.
In a keynote address by Dr Samuel Jenfa, Chairman board of trustees of the initiative, at a press briefing in Abuja, the NGO called on all Nigerians to brace up and be part of the socio- economic agenda for change.
“There never exist a nation without a difficult period. United States of America ( USA) went through a similar difficult period between 1861 and 1865 as result of civil war, but survived it through the reconstruction era of 1865 to 1877.
Great Britain also passed through a period of up and low since the birth of the Single Union on 1st May 1707 and one of dark ages to recall was the event of economic depression, poor harvest and high level of inflation of 1815 -1822 but the Union continued to flourish in a great economy through proper planning, unity and consistent efforts to hold on to their heritage”.
He restated the NGO’s commitment to join hands to end corruption in Nigeria.
“SOWENON will collaborate with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of government to ensure that due diligence, transparency, justice and fairness, as well as international best practices are strictly adhered to in carrying out their duties and in the award of contracts”.
Dr Jenfa said they “shall work with key stakeholders in repositioning our country to the right path through capacity building and community development programmes”.
