A classroom teacher ,Mr Michael Udam has expressed his dismay over the deplorable state of the road linking Ogoja from Mbok junction to the Katsina Ala express way via Gakem.
In an open letter to some lawyers in which he made known his intention to sue FERMA, Udam lamented the fact that nothing had been done over the years despite drawing attention several times to the state of the road which has claimed the lives of many.
See full letter below.
Dear barristers Kenneth Ikonne and Firsts Baba Isa,
REQUEST TO SUE FEDERAL ROAD MAINTENANCE AGENCY FERMA
I write to formally bring to your notice a desire that I have to sue FERMA over the poor state of the road linking Ogoja from mbok Junction to Gakem known as Ikom Katsina Ala highway.
The road was constructed in 1976 and a large portion is still standing firm after 45 years of usage by all the heavy-duty trucks conveying good from north to south and vice versa.
Recently we raise alarm about some failed portion and it was immediately fixed by FERMA. We all leaped with joy and blessed the federal government for answering our cry.
It will shock you to know that less than two months after construction, most of the constructed portions of the road have failed and we are back to square one.
My desire to sue FERMA is to extract truth about the quality of work done on that road and the value of money expended on the road.
I am writing to you to advise me whether to go on or not and if it is a good case.
I have gathered video and picture evidence to support my case.
How can a 45-year portion of the road be more durable than a two-month portion?
Or should I petition FERMA through my distinguish senator Jarigbe Agom ?
We cannot continue like this.
God bless you real good as you provide quick answers to my worry.
