It was an emotional moment for everyone as the amazon, former minister of education and co-converner of the Bring back our girls movement broke down in tears as she was called up to the podium to take a call to action at the graduation of the pioneer students of the school of politics, policy and governance.
After pulling herself together and mounting the podium, she attributed the tears to memories of her mother who inspired her to start the school but died in June 2020 before it came to fruition.
She reminisced on her struggle to stay out of politics which finally gave way when she realized that good governance would remain an illusion without the right kind of politics.
Ezekwesili stressed that governance comes after politics and it is the political class that determine the quality of life of the nation . She warned that no radical change would occur on the continent of Africa till Africa fixes her political space. She said there was need to challenge the attitude that leadership is about self . She described Africa as a continent where the tail wags the dog.
According to her, SPPG would be established in at least 6 countries.
Earlier, the keynote speaker , Prof Charles Soludo, Governor elect of Anambra state said there is a cost to be paid to get Nigeria’s politics right. He empasized the need for a new Nigeria Network for change.
The CEO/VC SPPG Alero Ayida-Otobo said the aim of SPPG aims at raising and preparing 10,000 disruptive based thinkers. She reminded the students that for them, the journey to nation building has begun.
