The Minister of transportation Rotimi Amaechi has accused the CCECC of playing politics with the Kano-Kaduna rail project. The Minister who lamented the slow pace of work on the project said this during a routine inspection of the project over the weekend.
“I think the CCECC is beginning to play politics. They should move away from politics and focus on construction. And I think they need to complete the Kaduna-Kano rail as planned.
“I think what they’re doing is delay the project for this government to come to end,” he said.
Amaechi explained that out of 2,000 equipment expected on the ground, so far only 500 were present while the Chinese contractor alleged that another 300 was on its way to the site.
According to the minister even if all 800 equipment was on ground, it would stall the work still as it was far below the agreed number to execute the job speedily as directed.
He threatened that FEC would revoke the contract of by a meeting he surmoned for Wednesday , no reasonable explanation was given or plan to speed up explained.
He also complained about the slow pace of work on the Portharcourt- Maiduguri rail project where he said nothing was happening even though the contractors had been given some money.
The Minister also inspected the Dala Dry Inland Port where work was on going with the Managing Director Ahmad Rabiu assuring the Minister that by March 31st, work would be completed and the port ready for operations to commence.
The Minister was accompanied by the permanent secretary, ministry of Transportation, Dr Magdalene Ajani and the MD NRC Engr Fidet Okhiria.
The Kano -Kaduna 204 km rail consists of 13 large and medium sized bridges, 17 framed bridges,,60 railway over passes, 12 pedestrian overpasses and 3 stations.
