Betrayed with a Kiss
You acknowledge that you came forth from me,
But then you won’t let me be!
You twist the knife so hard each chance you get,
Apparently you won’t rest till my sun sets.
Yet I nurture all your citizens,
Break my back to suckle your future,
I fret when you are ill,
Send up prayers in a bid to suture.
Your mistreatment I have borne,
Long enough to say I am gone.
What do I get for staying true?
Rejection,denial at every turn.
And yet like you I have a right to be here,
Our common heritage, you avail me in trickles.
Though you hush me with papers,
Still my voice rings through the hills.
Be strong enough to let me thrive,
Save your face while you can.
Make room for me at the table now
Together we can be more,
Whatever you choose though,
I promise,to be all I can though you betray me with a Kiss.
