Contrary to stories making the rounds that only those who defected from the APC with Gov Obaseki made the list of candidates declared winners in the primaries, the commissioner for information and orientation in Edo state Hon Andrew Emwatan says old PDP members were also beneficiaries of the primaries.
The commissioner who spoke on a program on ITV Abuja said it was unfortunate that so many people have put different stories out there that it is now difficult to tell the difference between truth and fiction.
According to him, the list presented by the Governor Obaseki faction meets the requirements by INEC which is that the date, time and venue of the primaries be duly communicated. He said failure of INEC to monitor the primaries if duly communicated does not nullify the outcome.
He further said the parallel primaries held.by the other faction was not credible as they were yet to say where the venue of their primaries was. In his words, “there is no right way of doing the wrong thing”.
Emwatan said five candidates took part in the primaries held at the Ogbemudia stadium including a sitting senator,Mathew Uroghide who lost the election which he said underscores the fairness, freeness and credibility of the process.
Further said the national working committee of the party sent people to conduct the elections and the people wrote a Report based on which the party submitted the list of those who emerged to INEC.
He faulted the position of INEC which he said was alternating between recognizing the candidates and not recognizing them. a situation which he described as corruption. He called on INEC to live up to expectation.
Responding to questions on the submitted list he said he was confident that the list would be upheld because it was, obtained following laid down rules.
