NiMet Calls For Mudslide Prevention Measures in Southeast, Warns on Flooding in the North_Ada Nkong

The Nigerian meteorologist agency has advised relevant authorities especially in the south east to put preventive measures against mudslides in place.

The DG NiMet Prof Mansur Matazu said this during a press briefing at the NiMet headquarters in Abuja

According to the DG, Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Yobe, Borno, Bauchi, much of Kebbi and Gombe as well as Northern Kaduna and Adamawa will experience above normal rainfall in the months of August , September and October.

Southwestern states like Lagos, Ogun, Osun, much of Oyo, Ondo, parts of Ekiti, and Edo states are to expect normal to above normal rainfall.

Prof Matazu adviced “states that are expected to experience varying degrees of flood episodes to begin their awareness campaign through field extension workers for possible response activities, especially at the high risk places”.

He also called on state and emergency management agencies to intensify adaptation mitigation and response mechanisms.

The DG adviced Nigerians to heed to other advisories by NIHSA and NEMA in order to avert loss of lives and property.
