
The minister of Transportation,Mu’azu Sambo says no money was paid to secure the release of 23 released Abuja Kaduna train attack victims.
The Minister who spoke to the press following their release said short and long term plans are in place for resumption of train services on the rail corridor. According to him, efforts have been made to ensure improved security to forestall a reoccurrence.
The news of the release of the remaining 23 kidnapped was greeted with joy as they were the last batch in captivity and they friends and families had made several pleas to government to help secure their release.
The minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Sambo while briefing journalists who had waited for over 6 hours in the hope of interacting with the victims to no avail, appreciated all parties involved in the release which he says was secured with out payment of Ransom
Concerning the commencement of rail services on Abuja-Kaduna corridor he said action is being taken to ensure improved security.
The permanent secretary, ministry of transportation,Dr Magdalene Ajani said all released victims have access to health care including post trauma care to ensure rehabilitation
The attack which took place 28 March saw 168 passengers kidnapped and 8 dead. Release of victims has been in batches with the 23 being the last batch in captivity.
