
The Director General, National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC), Dr. Emem Omokaro is in Seoul, Republic of Korea leading Nigerian 3-man delegation on a 3-day Global symposium on Ageing and Low Fertility: Building Demographic Resilience, hosted by UNFPA and Statistics Korea.
A statement by Mr Omini Oden,head corporate affairs and public relations,the focus of demographic resilience demands a shift from fundamentally negative, reactive and fragmented responses to population Ageing to a fundamentally positive, anticipatory and integrated responses to the demographic changes that are unfolding.
According to Oden Dr Emem Omokaro will be, sharing Nigeria’s unique experience of a simultaneous challenges of a budging youth population and the increasing number of older population. She will highlight the need for building sustainable institutions and mechanisms that are resilient to and can drive the challenges that come with the increasing absolute numbers of older persons.
The Director General is poised to join a high powered policy panel on the theme, “Demographic Resilience: From threat to opportunities”. She is expected to share the efforts of the Nigerian Government in addressing population challenges in a comprehensive and holistic manner and fully harnessing, the accompanying opportunities to ensure improved quality of life for older persons while promoting intergenerational synergies and economic growth opportunities through the National Senior Citizens Centre.
Dr Omokaro will use the opportunity to spotlight Nigeria’s Strategic Roadmap on Ageing and its model Strategic Pathways to achieving healthy Ageing, Social care, continuing engagement and opportunities for income security and reliable data system.
On the team is the Director General National Population Commission Mr. Telison Ojogun and Dr. Bintu Abba, Director, Planning Research and StatisticsNPC.
