Book Launch: We Need to Build Citizens of Nigeria Not Indigenes -AK Peters _Ada Nkong

The need to reengineer the mindset of Nigerians to foster the spirit of Nation building has been emphasized.

Sir Peter Akam Etta made the call during the launch of his book ” This Ship must not Sink” in Abuja.

According to the author, the book is his own way of contributing to nation building.

“So many bad things have happened to Nigeria,not because Nigerians have not taken the appropriate and proper steps and I have resolved that I will contribute my own quota in national development and national cohesion by publishing this book”.

He lamented that Nigerians have more affection for their ethnic groups than for the nation.

“when Nigeria started in 1960, the man from Abeokuta came to represent the west, the man from Enugu came to represent the east,the man from Sokoto came to represent the North and there was no ody to represent Nigeria “.

According to him, the division has continued and widened the gap. He there called for unity and cohesion to develop Nigeria.

“we really need to blend, we need some reasonable level of gel, we need to come together and more importantly,build a nation of citizens and not Indigenes.

The co-chairman of the occasion Mr Patrick Ojeka who described the timing of the book as apt stressed the need for more young persons to adopt a patriotic stand .

The launch was well attended by people from all works of life who were full of encomiums for the author. They described Sir Peter Etta as intelligent, hardworking and a patriot with a huge love for nation building.

High point of the event was the unveiling of the book by the author flanked by members of the high table and representatives of the Knights of St. John international of which the author is a member.
