FG Urged to Adopt Effective Transport Management Systems_Ada Nkong

The need to put in place proper management systems to .mitigate the problem of traffic gridlocks on the Apapa axis in Lagos and Nyanya- Maraba in Abuja has been emphasized.

The chief economic adviser ,Cross River state, and former AFDB private sector specialist, Dr Francis Ntamu  made the call during the annual seminar organized by the Abuja transport and aviation correspondents in Abuja 

Dr Ntamu in his presentation, did a comparison between the economic growth in Ethiopia, Egypt and Nigeria, with Ethiopia having the highest growth rate which he attributed to a robust air and rail transport system. He called on government to do the needful y dredging Nigeria’s port to 17km so as to enable larger vessels berth which he said will increase job creation and revenue generation.

On his part, the president of riders and owners of motor cycle association of Nigeria,Alhaji Olusola Sotayo called on government to regulate rather than ban Okada riders as they contribute to economic growth and reduce the crime rate by providing gainful employment for youths.

Speaking earlier,the chairman ATACA, Mr Chris Agabi appreciated the various stakeholders in the sector for their contribution to the growth of aviation and transport in Nigeria and called on them to so more as we are currently underperforming interns of contributing to the GDP via air, rail and Maritime.

The seminar had in attendance stakeholders in the sector with FAAN, NCAT, Shippers council, Bangladesh and Nigeria Trade and business forum as well as the GM ITV Abuja, Mr Abiodun Mudasiru . 

Former Minister of Transportation,Rt Hon Rotimi Amaechi represented by Engr Biokpo Awara was chairman of the event with the theme Nigeria’s troubled economy: Aviation,Rail, Maritime as rescue sectors.
