A new month is always exciting because it is a new beginning. This new month of February though, is for Nigerians,a very special one and promises to be an exceptional one.
To start with, Nigerians are entering the month cashless for a good number of them. Not because all are broke but because many ATM and banking halls as at 31st January were unable to dispense cash. This left many an adult with less than 1000 in their pockets with money that cannot be transferred due to network challenges in the bank.
Again, we are in the middle of another fuel crisis, with the price having tripled in most areas, fuel queues have earned a top position in the to do list of many a Nigerian, as I type, I guess countless are out there in the cold already, taking position outside fueling stations in the hope of getting fuel early enough to get off to a productive start of the day and month.
Thanks to INECs , PVC collection is still on and a good number of well meaning Nigerians will have to deal with the queues at the collection centers today and for the next few days to ensure they are armed with PVCs to exercise their franchise. Painfully, a long stay at those centers does not guarantee collection..Oh the pain of getting to the officials after 4 hours and being told your card is not in those sacred white boxes!
This same February, elections will hold with all the frenzy amidst the numerous challenges on ground. Hopefully, the BVAS will take away some of the challenges of the previous card readers and elections will be peaceful, free and fair.. Which ever way it turns out, the Batified,Stimulated, Obidients and all other parties have an adrenaline filled February ahead of them.
I don’t envy Nigerians at all. Valentine is in two weeks time but of course it will be overshadowed by all the above happenstances. Most would neither get gifts nor treats no thanks to the many challenges.
The Nigerian February 2023 therefore calls for.ore than happy new .month messages. It calls for bracing up and self motivation. The hall mark of Nigerians is resilience and like always, we will survive the peace.
To all Nigerians therefore we say, good luck , have an eventful February.
