Christians Urged to Embrace Peace, Reconciliation _Ada Nkong

Christians have been asked to embrace peace and reconciliation in emulation of Jesus Christ.

Fr Moses Iyara made the call during the commemoration of Palm Sunday at St. John of the cross parish Mararaba.

The Sunday before Easter throughout the world is set aside to celebrate palm Sunday in commemoration of the triumphant entry into Jerusalem.

Catholics in St. John of the cross parish Mararaba decorated the church and altar with palms and started the mass with a scripture narrating the origin of palm Sunday followed by blessing of the palms.

The priest and lay persons then processed into the church bearing palms. Fr Moses Iyara, spoke on the significance of the ceremony. He said the idea of processing with palms is to reenact what took place during Jesus triumphant entry into Jerusalem. According to him, the choice of a donkey rather than a horse as means of transportation is instructive as donkeys depict humility, peace and reconciliation.

He called on christians to embrace peace and reconciliation as we enter the holy week.

” Jesus did not enter Jerusalem with a horse which represents military might but with a donkey which shows a meek and bumble spirit,we should imbibe the teachings of Jesus in our hearts and let it be the guiding principle of all that we do”.

Palm Sunday is officially the start of holy week full of activities leading up to Easter.
