The Independent National Electoral Commission headquarters has rejected the announcement of Aishatu Dahiru as winner of the governorship elections.
According to a statement released by INEC national commissioner information and voter education,Mr Festius Okoye on Sunday afternoon, it is not the place of the REC to announce results.
Okoye said” the action of the REC is a usurpation of the power of the returning officer. It is null , void and of no effect”.
He ordered the halting of collation of results and return of the REC, returning officer and all involved to the headquarters immediately.
The state resident electoral commissioner,Hudu Yunusa had announced Aisha Binani as winner following the supplementary elections held in the state on Saturday.
Reports reaching Newsanexonline following videos circulating on social media day Hudu was beaten by a mob following the announcement.
