In a bid to prevent occupational accidents and promote work place safety, the ministry of labor and productivity organized a road walk to commemorate the 3023 world day for safety and health at work.
The event which had participants from ,NESREA ,NECA and other agencies began with a walk from the Goodluck Jonathan Express down to Gudu market.
The Minister of Labor and productivity Dr Chris Ngige represented by the Director social works Dr Loretta Adeolu
appreciated all stakeholders and the International Labor Organization (ILO) for being their sponsor..
According to her, the event takes place annually on the 28 April and is a global event which in Nigeria is done in all the state of the federation.
She said the purpose for this event is is to promote prevention of occupational accident at work place.adding that there are different kind of hazards such as chemical, electrical hazard and there is a way to control hazard so it doesn’t cause harm to people at work place.
She mentioned that improper handling of chemicals causes damage to individual at work place so to prevent this worker’s should make use of proper gadget and personal protection equipment.she said gloves,gogles and nose masks should be used at work places.
Dr Adeolu also pointed to electrical hazard and that there are statutory authorities in charge of safety and health at work place. She mentioned that everyone should be up and doing to ensure safety and health of workers as it’s fundamental.workers should be involved because when there are safe and healthy.there can perform effectively in their place of work.She further mentioned that when accident occurs it causes injury and affect productivity.it is therefore our responsibility to ensure worker’s safety at work place when worker’s go to work there can come back home safe and healthy to take care of their Love ones
At Gudu market, free medical checks were given to all traders who made themselves available. The traders expressed gratitude to the ministry for the enlightenment and for the free medical services.
