Chief Bassey Esin, an APC chieftain has said those questioning the 2023 Presidential results are enemies of democracy.
In a statement made available to our Correspondent, Chief Esin, former transition secretary of Urue-Offiong Oruko local government area of Akwa-Ibom state lamented the fact that politicians who themselves have won elections conducted by INEC and occupied positions are the ones declaring no confidence in elections conducted by the same body.
According to him, ” I do not know why some politicians who contest and lost in an election like blaming INEC, some of these people have contested and won elections more than twice as declared by same INEC and,accepted the results as announced’.
“When they contested for the State House or Federal House in 2015 or,2019,was their victory based on fake results from INEC?
Esin said people should be careful about what they say. According to him, the 2023 election is one of the best elections so far conducted in Nigeria by INEC as It was a free and fair election.
He expressed surprise that some people are calling for cancellation of the results of the 2023 presidential elections.
“Imagine Datti of labour party or anybody from any political party calling on President Buhari and the Chief Justice of Nigeria not to swear in Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the President Elect of Nigeria after he won in a very free and fair election conducted by INEC., For even daring to think such a thought, I consider such persons to be the real enemies of Nigeria and democracy.
Commenting on the issue of senate president for the 10th assembly, Chief Bassey said “It is also like talking about who should be the Senate President from the South. All the contenders for the office of the Senate President from the South are qualified”. He cited Comrade Adams Oshiomole, Senator GodsWill Akpabio,David Umahi or Sen. Orji Uzo Kalu who he said are all qualified for the position.
“It should not be a question of whether the person is a first timer in the Senate or not because Sen.GodsWill Akpabio became the Senate Minority leader in his first term as a Senator.
He said the question of who should be the next senate President is a question that should be decided by the party hierarchy and the President Elect”.
He also said,the Senate President should be somebody who should be able to hold the Party together and, the interest of the Party and the interest of Nigeria should be paramount in his heart noting that
It is not a question of sentiments but,what is the best for the Nigerian people.
He posited that if Party hierarchy is to be followed,the highest on the Party hierarchy is Comrade Adams Oshiomole because he was a one-time National Chairman of the Party.
He advised that whatever discussion people are holding,they must allow the interest of Nigeria to come first. People should stop every sentiment of who stood with who before the election because,after the election,all the people or party members came together and worked together to elect the President in the person of Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu/Shettima.
According to him, “God has made Sen. Ahmed Tinubu the President because he has seen his heart that he has the interest of other people at heart. He has had cause to sit down and support other people to succeed in politics. Asiwaju Bola Tinubu,over the years have shown patience in working with and listening to other people when he is not in office”.
He expressed confidence that the president that will be sworn in on May 29 in the person of Bola Ahmed Tinubu will bring good things to Nigeria. They will fulfill their campaign promises to Nigerians.
