Sudan Evacuation: FG Promises no Nigerian Will Be Left Behind -Ada Nkong

As the fourth batch of Evacuees from Sudan Arrive Nigeria, the federal government has promised that no Nigerian Will be left behind.

The batch of 131 Nigerians comprising 123 adults and 8 infants were received by a team from NIDCOM, Ministry of foreign affairs, ministry of humanitarian affairs , Refugee commission,NEMA and people from the private sector who provided support like Dangote, MTN and others.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE INTERMINISTERIAL BRIEFING ON THE RETURN OF THE FOURTH BATCH OF EVACUEES FROM SUDAN ON SATURDAY MAY 6, 2023 AT HAJJ TERMINAL OF NNAMDI AZIKIWE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT ABUJA.

  1. The fourth batch of 131 EVACUEES comprising of
    123 adults and 8 infants aboard Tarco Aircraft :B737-300 from Port Sudan International Airport, arrived at 2.35pm in Abuja.
  2. Those who received them include Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO NIDCOM, PS Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Dr Sani Gwarzo, Representative of Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Mustapha Habeeb, DG NEMA, Representative of Refugees Commissioner, Mrs Iman Ibrahim as well as other stakeholders who provided logistics support like Nigeria Immigration Service, Dangote Foundation, MTN and Hajia Asmau Yerima Mohammed representing Association of Parents and Guardian of Students in Sudan.

3) The Evacuees were assured that no Nigerian will be left behind in the war torn Sudan as President Muhammadu Buhari has given the committee the necessary support to bring back home any willing Nigerians.

  1. Another flight is being expected on Sunday and they are about concluding all the necessary clearance for them to take off.

5) 3 evacuees sustained injuries and have been moved to the hospital. One has injury in the hand while another one had abdominal pain. All of them have been stabilised.

6 ) The committee reiterated that there is no ethnic segregation as being speculated in some quarters and the committee is intact and remain focussed in its mandate.

7) It was announced again that post trauma counselling and psycho social treatment is being planned by NIDCOM in conjunction with the Ministry of Health as well as Refugees Commission in partnership with Aliko Dangote Foundation.

8) In line with the traditional support laid down, each of the returnees were given N100k and a bag courtesy of Dangote Foundation while MTN supported with a Sim pack and call credit of N25,000 as well as 1.5 G Data.

9) Both NEMA and Refugees Commission provided those of them whose family are not in Abuja with transportation and hotel accommodation till they reunite with their respective families.

  1. On continuation of their studies in Nigeria, the Committee assured them that there are plans to secure placement for them in their respective courses in Nigeria with the support of Ministry of Education.

11) Most of the students interviewed regretted the war situation in Sudan and thanked the Federal Government of Nigeria for coming promptly to their rescue, pleading to hasten the evacuation of their colleagues still trapped in the War zone Sudan.
