Women Hall of Fame Induction: Minister of Women Affairs,DG NCWD Applaud Hilda Bacci_Ada Nkong

As 8 Nigerian women get inducted into the hall of Fame Tuesday, the Minister of women affairs,Dame Paulen Talen has commended Hilda Bassey, the Nigerian female chef who recently beat the records to enter the Guinness World Record after cooking for 100 hours.

Speaking to a gathering of notable Nigerian women from all works of life including friends and associates who had come to felicitate with the inductees,the minister said Hilda had set a good example for the Nigerian woman and girl child with her resilience and determination which earned her the feat.

She lamented that in the political sphere, women were still held back by their male counterparts from occupying apex positions like governor and president, adding that Nigerian women have all it takes to occupy any office and deliver on their mandate.

She called on those who had contested but lost or were robbed of their mandate not to give up but to keep trying till the goal is reached. She also called on women to support each other as the victory won by one would be for all.

The DG National Center for Women Development , Dr Asabe Bashir in her welcome address described the induction as “a milestone achievement in the struggle for self actualization by Nigerian women “.

She further said it was “a unique platform to pay tributes, commend as well as remember with appreciation our forerunners who sacrificed their comfort and privileges to pave the way for the giant strides of today’s women”.

The inductees include Mrs Amina J Mohammed,first female to serve as deputy Secretary-general of United Nations, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala first female and African DG of the WTO, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire Advocate for transformative change, Mrs Kofo Akinkugbe 1st female in Nigeria to own a sim card production line, Dr Eleanor Nwadinobi, first Nigerian woman elected president international medical women association, Engr. Bolarinwa Kemisola, 1st female to invent smart bra for early detection of cancer and Engr. Funke Okpeke, 1st female to build West African first privately owned largest tier 111 data center.

The criteria for selection are first woman historic or living to achieve recognition in the field of endeavor or lifetime achievement in that field.

Highpoint of the event was the entry of inductees into the Nigerian women Hall of Fame led by the Minister and the DG NCWD.
