NiMet Unions Distance Self From Alarm by PMAN, ANAP Over Aviation Heads Reshufflement_Ada Nkong

The Joint Unions of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) have dissociated themselves from reports that the unions have expressed fear of impending air crashes owing to the removal of heads of aviation agencies
This follows a joint letter, by a body purportedly, Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet); Professional Meteorologists Association of Nigeria (PMAN) and Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP) stating that most of those appointed in key positions in the agencies were incompetent and could constitute a problem for the sector.

The letter was signed by Mr. Kalu Onumah and Bisi Adegbenjo as Chairman and secretary respectively, on behalf of PMAN, while Folorunsho Daniel and Jacob Bwala, signed as Chairman and Secretary, ANAP .

However, the Chairman of the National Union of Transport Employee and Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals NiMet branch, Comrade Uzor Oluchi and Comrade Ambore Samson respectively while speaking journalists yesterday said the union never raised such alarm
According to him, “Yes, we have the Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals (ANAP) as one of our existing union in the Agency but the said Professional Meteorologists Association of Nigeria (PMAN) does not exist and is not recognized, and the names mentioned are not in existence”.

Contrary to the claims in the letter, the Unions also questioned the right of the author’s while confirming that the two names mentioned are capable of efficiently handling the positions given them as required and the union is in no doubt they can be appointed as Directors.

They further said one of the persons mentioned has been a Director for over a year and his position hasn’t been in doubt while the other has been a General Manager, Hydrmeteorological Services for the past 5 years in the Agency.

They called on the New Government and members of the general public to disregard any petitions coming from this none existing association and definitely not from the Agency.
They said that Director General/CEO, Prof. Mansur Bako Matazu has been working assiduously to ensure the Agency lives up to its expectations, and we wish to plead with all and sundry to support the goods being meted and lift NiMet to much greater achievements.
