Chief Bassey Esin, APC chieftain and publisher Global Spy News has tackled former Rivers state governor,Nyesom Wike on his choice of candidate for Senate President.
In a statement made available to our correspondent, Chief Esin said Wike’s choice was based on the support he had received from the candidate in the past
According to him, “you have spoken well. You have the right to choose and support your preferred candidate for the Senate Presidency after all,your preferred candidate was the person who supported you intensely in 2015 to become Governor, but,you have to understand that APC is neither NPN nor PDP. APC is here to give NIGERIANS the best”.
Speaking to the mention of Wayas, Chief Bassey pointed out that Sen. Joseph Wayas was qualified for the office of the Senate President because he stood together with the leaders of NPN in Cross River State and delivered CROSS RIVER STATE for NPN.
According to him, “Sen. Joseph Wayas made sure that NPN won election in Cross River and produced a governor, otherwise,I don’t think he would have been made senate president.
Also,talking of the present hour situation in APC , he said South South has produced a deputy Senate President so we are talking about APC as a party.
“What we want is peace for the Country. What I think we should really say is that the Senate President should come from the Christian Community of South East or South South. It is not to relegate South east and only talk of South South. If we truly seek the peace of Nigeria and want President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Succeed, and,to carry all the zones in the South and bring in equity,the Senate President should come from the South East because, South South produced a Deputy Senate President in the 9th Senate and produced a National Chairman of the Party”.
Chief Esin further said “there are good APC people from the South East,some APC Senators from the South East love and respect President Tinubu a great deal. They also love the Party.
For instance it was Sen. Orji Uzo Kalu who brought the very powerful campaign slogan for Tinubu/ Shettima which was nationally adopted : #ARE YOU BATIFIED? Which drew people everywhere to support and, vote for President Tinubu/ Shettima”.
He said what should be considered exhaustively before anyone is made a Senate President is that the Senator should have a clean record. Not the type of Senator that will cause a situation like what happened in Saraki’s time where the Senate President was always in Court .
He opined that the Senate President should be a man whose love for the party is known and who will bring the Party together. He cautioned that it should not be given to a man who will cause factions and divisions in the Party either at the State or Federal level and, moreso a man who can speak the truth to Mr President and the Nigerian people. A man whose yes is yes and no is no.
He however said the Senators are the ones who will vote at the end of the day. They know among themselves and those contesting for the office the man who has the needed qualities from the required zone and should vote for him.
He urged them to leave unnecessary sentiments behind and take a decision on the day of voting and vote a man from APC whom they know will be a plus to the Executive and to the Party.
Chief Bassey Esin sized the opportunity to Express his appreciation to the President of the 9th Senate Sen.Ahmed Lawan and the Speaker, of the House of Representative s Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila for their great work for the Nigerian people as the leaders of the 2 Houses of the National Assembly.
