National Senior Citizens Center Dialogues With Bankers on Financial Inclusion for Elderly _Ada Nkong

In a bid to further discussions on Financial Inclusion for senior citizens that will improve access to goods and services at discounted rates, the National Senior Citizens Center held a roundtable discussion with high level staff of banks, in Abuja.

The meeting which had in attendance the Director general of NIMC, Engineer Aliyu Aziz and representatives from different commercial banks centered on provision of a card for the elderly via registration with NIMC and NSCC which will enable them access preferential treatment and discounts.

In her welcome address, the DG NSCC Dr Emem Omokaro who expressed appreciation to participants for making it to the meeting shed light on the essence of the discussion.

“The National Senior Citizens Centre’s vision is a multi-purpose card that would serve as vehicle for financial inclusion, as conducive economic and social enterprise empowerment instrument and access to age-friendly physical environment outcomes for Nigeria’s senior citizens – a population most left behind’, she said.

On his part, the DG NIMC who gave the enrollment as at 2019 to be 14.9 million said as at 2022, it had grown to 16 million.

He stressed the need for senior citizens to get themselves registered as they would need the ID cards to access benefits that would accrue to the elderly.

The DG NSCC said a technical meeting would be arranged to work out modalities for implementation of the move and synergy with banks after which the card would launched in partnership with NSCC.
