As part of efforts towards inculcating good virtues, experience, skills and knowledge for a better society, Nigerian Girl Guides Association today trains its members in the group’s Zone B, Western Region in Asaba, Delta State capital with practical skills to face and overcome societal challenges as girl-child and women well prepared.
The media learnt this today being on Friday, August 11, 2023 during the group’s opening ceremony and training held at St’ Patrick’s college Asaba, Delta State capital as NGGA Delta State Commissioner, Comrade Toritsereju Eyitemi Hope calls for more support to girls, harps on the Girls’ roles towards societal development.
Nigerian Girl Guides Association with a motto: “Be prepared”, mission and vision statement of training Girls, women to learn and lead, acquire practical skills, knowledge and experience to face the society is the oldest, largest of all female International organizations with branches in over 52 countries, all the continents of the world with millions of members in the entire globe. The group was founded in 1909 in Britain, 1919 in Nigeria, first in Lagos and later came to Anambra State in 1923 and other states in Nigeria.

In a welcome address by the Delta State Commissioner, Nigerian Girl Guides Association, while commending the States Commissioners in the Zone, State officers, National Zonal Commissioners, International Commissioner, Mrs Tejiri Bekibele Okeregbe, the National Training Commissioner, Dr. Mrs Helen Obi, Eyitemi stated that, the training, zonal camping will expose the girls to limitless opportunities in building up their leadership experiences.
Speaking at the event by Dr. Mrs Helen Obi, a Professor of Law, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, who doubles as the National Training Commissioner, Nigerian Girl Guides Association, she stated that the major objectives of training with the theme: “Learn & Lead” is to ensure the Girls are well prepared in line with the group’s motto to face the society, make acquire he needed practical skills, knowledge, experience and learning to excel, overcome societal challenges and refrain from social vices to play better roles for societal development.
The Deputy Chief Commissioner, Deaconess kikelomo Thompson, International Commissioner, Mrs Tejiri Bekibele Okeregbe, National Public Relations officer, Titilola Oluwatoyin, tasks , participants on practical skills, knowledge, learning that will promote team spirit, unity, love and productivity in their various homes for societal development.
The event was attended by Girls and women from South-south and South West Geo-political Zones of Nigeria. Other participants at the event Included amongst others are: Country Yess Coordinator, Mrs Debora Ogbonna, the group’s Creative and Innovation Commissioner, Mrs Mary Ukpo, group’s Executive Secretary, Miss Yutmudi Dabris, group’s State Adviser, Mrs Aluko Adunni and Delta State Scout Commissioner, Comrade Landlord Lawrence Agbagoro.
