Growing up in Ogoja in the early nineties one of the perks of growing into an adult was being sure of your attendance at the annual Aya picnic in Ogoja. The not so grown or sheltered would need parental consent to go and that could go any way with a yes or no.
It is heartwarming to see the much desired picnic back with new dimensions.
The organizers with benefit of hindsight and having toured the world are back to not only reenact the unforgettable experience of the Aya picnic but to take things to the next level.
The 2023 edition of the AYA peninsula picnic holds on the 24th and 31st December 2023 at the Aya Beach behind GRA.
A close source to the organizers says dignitaries including top government functionaries are expected at the event which will hold between 9am and 6 pm both days.
The event promises swimming, dancing, competitions like Badminton Volleyball, Snooker,6 a side football.Traditional wrestling and high jump.
Aya picnic is the biggest and oldest picnic in Cross River State. It has been given credit for birthing the canival Calabar.
Other side attractions are networking and plenty to eat and drink.
