Following the stalemate that characterised the NAWOJ FCT elections billed to hold on Saturday 20th January 2024, the National president NAWOJ,Aishatu Ibrahim has inaugurated a caretaker committee to oversee the activities of NAWOJ FCT.
Speaking to the committee at a brief inauguration at the NAWOJ headquarters in Gudu, the chairperson also gave them the responsibility of conducting elections to fill the vacant offices in the chapter.
“The mandate of this committee is primarily to oversee the activities of NAWOJ FCT chapter you are going to work hand in hand with the credentials committee to conduct elections into the offices of NAWOJ FCT.
You will ask the credentials committee to hand over the work they have done. We are yet to decide whether you will start the process all over again or begin where they have left”.
According to her ,the committee became necessary following reports that the chapter had two factions during the elections which affected the conduct of the elections.
While reminding them that they had been chosen because of their character and integrity,she charges them to act with the fear of God in discharging their duties.
“Let us make sure that we play by the rules, let us make sure that we are fair to each interested party”.
The chairman of the caretaker committee Kemi Kindness who spoke to our correspondent said their first task was to get everyone to work together.
” For us, it is not a case of this person or that person,for is it is first our association”.
“Let’s bring our association together, throw away the bad blood, let’s work together. Whoever comes on board, let’s put our heads together and make sure that our association becomes what it ought to be”.
As to how the committee will achieve its mandate of conducting elections she said they would do their best and also rely on counsel from elders well versed in the constitution of the association to get things right.
On her part, the secretary of the caretaker committee,Hadiza said though it is not an easy task, with support of stakeholders, it can be achieved.
“,I call on all stakeholders, the delegates to be calm and to have confidence in us so that we will be able to achieve that peace and harmony needed to work things out”.
The caretaker committee consists of Kemi Kindness as chairman, Nkiru Njemanze member, Khadija Aminat member, Hadizah Ndadamah secretary and Elizabeth Kashan member .
Recall that after the former Exco was dissolved, disagreement on the mode of identification for accreditation before voting caused the FCT NAWOJ elections to be put on hold with a caretaker committee formed by the national executive though a cross section of participants at Congress had equally attempted to form a caretaker committee on their own.
