Belegete Crisis: Captain Hart Modey Tasks NEMA,SEMA on Intervention

By Ada Nkong

Following the displacement of the Belegete people die to attacks by suspected Ambazonians from Cameroon and the untold hardship facing them , Captain Hart Modey, a philanthropist has called on the National Emergency Management Agency and Cross River State SEMA to rise to the occasion and provide the needed intervention.

Recall that reports from a visit by a group in Northern Cross River which provided some palliatives late last year and early this year had described as unsavory the living conditions of the displaced persons which includes women and children, reporting that there had been loss of lives due to the harsh weather up the Obudu cattle ranch where they sort refuge and lack of medical attention.

In a phone conversation with our correspondent, Captain Modey lamented that there had been no report of any sort of intervention by either the federal or state emergency management agencies whose responsibility it is to provide palliatives in such circumstances and see to the rehabilitation and resettlement of such persons.

While commending the Who is Who group for the two visits during which they gave palliatives and provided medical attention, he called for speedy action by the government agencies to prevent further loss of lives. According to him ” it is their responsibility as a government agency”.

He also thanked the Senator representing Cross River North, Senator Jarigbe Agom, the house of rep member representing Obudu , Bekwarra and Obanlikwu Hon. Peter Akpanke, Senator Musa Adede and other individuals for their efforts in reaching out to the Belegete people.

The leaders of the Belegete community had called on well meaning Nigerians to draw the attention of the government to their plight during a visit by the Who is Who in Northern Cross River group pleading that as Nigerians, they look forward to government support.
