10th Aviation Week: Capacity Building, Work Tools Top Discuss at Town hall Meeting

The need for more staff to access training opportunities as well as empowering staff with laptops and other tools was on the front burner as workers in the aviation sector under the aegis of the Joint Consultative and Negotiating Council,JCNC held their town hall meeting as part of activities to mark the 10th aviation week.

In his welcome address, the chairman JCNC, Comrade Hector Nnadi said the town hall would avail the workers first hand opportunity to air their concerns on welfare and other issues to the authorities.He further said there had been improvements in the outcome of successive aviation weeks and 2024 would not be an exception.

Representing the office of the permanent secretary, the director human resource management Mrs Nwokocha Nkechi

assured the workers that all concerns would be duly noted and attended to. She urged all were not part of the trainings in the past year to forward their names for consideration this year.

The secretary general of JCNC Abubakar Sadiq said the “idea is to create that link between those below and those above providing staff with a platform to speak out about what they think should be done to correct certain lapses inherent in public service generally”. According to him at the end of the town hall meeting, resolutions would be put together by the union and forwarded to management.

A participant Mrs Olaide said from experience, the town hall meeting would result in management implementing suggestions that would help them work better. According to her “from the last town hall meeting, most of the the things that were requests and the things we raised there we have seen the results. She expressed optimism that better results would be seen this year.

The town hall meeting is one of a series of events to mark the 2024 Aviation Week that saw sporting events on the 31st of January with a larger forum to hold at Yar,’Adua centre Abuja on the 2nd of February 2024.

Participants listened to a lecture on the strategies of the civil service with focus on FCSSIP 25 and it’s pillars after which there was an interactive session with management where various directors addressed various concerns of the workers.
