The Nigeria Civil Service Union has called on government to put in place an appraisal process for the ongoing public service reforms that will include participation of social partners.

This was part of the communique issued at the end of the 58th Federal executive council meeting of the NCSU held in Abuja presided over by council chairman Comrade Adoga Aruwa.

In a communique signed by Comrade Daniel Otaikpo assistant secretary general of the council, the leadership lamented the arbitrary retirement of civil servants as well as non payment of entitlements earned and severance allowances.
According to them, the process of review is not transparent.

While acknowledging the inevitability of the public service reforms, they faulted the fact that critical partners like workers, the union and senior citizens were excluded from the process.
The chairman, Adoga Aruwa asked for fairness in the mergers of parastatals as the union does not want loss of jobs for its members. He said the union does not want to see members become beggars.
The secretary Daniel Otapa said since the removal of fuel subsidy, workers have been finding life very difficult despite the wage award.
They called for a critical study of the Oronsaye report before implementation so that it does not turn out to be a policy somersault while expressing fear that if not properly handled some civil servants would find themselves becoming dependants while they have dependants at home.
The FEC in session therefore called on government to among other things, ” restore the time tested ethos of neutrality, diligence, merit , stable career and commensurate reward and discipline ” which they said would foster accountability.

On the proposed minimum wage by labour, the council urged the government to consider and approve the proposal in view of the high cost of living in the country today.
