The importance of transportation in the nation’s economy cannot be overemphasized. To this end, the ministry of transportation has come up with a land transport policy that will by extension compliment the national development policy and bring about infrastructural development of well driven.
At the validation meeting attended by stakeholders from different arms under the transport sector , the minister of transportation Alkali Said shed light on the relevance of the validation meeting.
To improve rural urban connectivity, foster inclusion and ensure a sustainable transport system that meets the needs of the people are some of the objectives of the National Land transport policy as highlighted by the minister of transportation Alkali Saidu.
The DG NIIT Dr Bayero Salih-Farah who presented the draft policy for consideration says for the policy to work, training, infrastructure and research are necessary.
Stakeholders commented on some aspects of the policy that need to be reviewed
The permanent secretary of the ministry of transportation Olufemi Oloruntola in his welcome adress gave assurance that stakeholders were widely consulted and input sought
He called for validation for the policy by wave of hand which was given by majority.
