The minister for sports development Senator John Owan Enoh has declared his support for the creation of Ogoja State out of Cross River State.
The minister made the declaration when he received a delegation of members of the Movement for the Actualisation of Ogoja State at his office in Abuja.
The converner of the meeting and leader of the delegation, Dr Dom Cklaimz Enamhe who commended the minister for the strides he was making by repositioning sporting activities in Nigeria , appreciated him in particular for the sporting events he has facilitated in Cross River State in particular. He urged the minister to take advantage of his closeness to the president as a member of the cabinet to make a case for the creation of Ogoja State.
Mr Johnny Agim ( SAN) speaking for the team on behalf of former minister of Justice,Kanu Agabi (SAN ) briefed the minister that following a call for memoranda by the national assembly, a committee was set up led by Kanu Agabi and a memorandum was duly out together and submitted within the allotted time frame. Presenting the paper to the minister, he made it known that copies had earlier been made available to the Senators representing the North and South of Cross River State by the committee for necessary follow up.
Elder statesman Compol Lawrence Alobi on his part, commended the minister for his humility and expressed hope that he would help attract federal government presence to the old Ogoja province especially Ikom which he said had little evidence of such. He urged the minister to use his good office to push for the realisation of Ogoja State.
High point of the event was the presentation of a birthday card signed by members of the delegation and a birthday song led by Deacon Grace Stella Gekpe, former Permanent secretary ministry of information.
Responding, Sen. John Enoh thanked the team for the good wishes. He assured the team of his total support for the creation of Ogoja State and promised to do all he can, to see it actualised in the lifetime of this administration. He said his focus is on sports development in the country and he is working assiduously to see that there is appreciable growth in the sector.
Dr Sam Eno in his vote of thanks, commended the minister for his accessibility and warm reception while lending his voice to the call to leave no stone unturned to see that Ogoja State becomes a reality.
The delegation had previously visited the national assembly where the call for creation of Ogoja State was endorsed by Senators Eteng Jonah Williams and Jarigbe Agom.
