The Supreme Court has passed judgement granting local government financial autonomy.
The court also directed the federal government to henceforth, pay allocation meant for the 774 local government directly to their respective accounts.
Delivering judgment in the suit on Thursday, a seven-member panel of justices held that state governments have continued to abuse their powers by retaining and using the funds meant for LGAs.
