Urueoffong/Oruko Chairmanship: Stakeholders Decry Purported Plans of Imposition

By Ada Nkong

Stakeholders in Urueoffong/Oruko local government area have cried out against alleged plans to impose Hon. Uno Etim as council chairman.

A statement signed by 44 Stakeholders says the party structure has already endorsed the incumbent,Dr Tukubok Okpoyo for the position based on her antecedents.

See full statement below:

TEXT OF A PRESS CONFERENCE HELD BY THE PEOPLE OF URUEOFFONG/ORUKO LGA AGAINST THE PURPORTED IMPOSITION OF RT. HON. UNO ETIM UNO AS THE COUNCIL CHAIRMAN

It is widely rumoured all over the State that Rt. Hon. Uno Etim Uno has been requested by the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State to go and take care of the LGA as its Chairman. According to Uno, the Governor has begged him to accept his (Governor’s) decision as the government needs an insider to take care of the huge allocation that would come to the LGA via direct allocations and to make returns to the government. This rumour is widely pronounced and disseminated by Rt. Hon. Uno Etim Uno himself.

We hereby state that the Party structure in the Chapter and the ten Wards had earlier endorsed Dr. Tukubok Okpoyo for the Executive Chairmanship of the LGA. In the same vein, the critical Stakeholders of PDP in Urueofong/Oruko led by Rt. Hon. Chief Sir Esio Oquong Udoh have recently endorsed Dr. Tukubok Okpoyo for the forthcoming Executive Chairmanship of the LGA. The Party and the critical Stakeholders still stand by their endorsements in favour of Dr. Tukubok Okpoyo.

The entire people of the LGA frown at the purported imposition of one man who had been a Councillor, a Chapter Chairman, a Vice Chairman, a State House Member, a Member of Assembly Service Commission, a Commissioner of over 8 years who has already overstayed his usefulness in the office. A man with whom the Stakeholders are already tired of his leadership and have been praying for the day that he will leave office as he is not the only person who has worked for and supported the government all these years.

We hereby call on the government, if actually the decision is from that angle, to rescind this purported decision and allow Dr. Tukubok Okpoyo to continue to serve the people as her endorsement was informed by her impactful performance which has positively touched the lives of the people in the LGA.

We are sure that this rumour will not stand and our amiable State Governor will not allow Unoh’s contrived palace coup to see the light of the day.
