Nigerian Physicians Advocacy Group NPAG has called on the government to open channels of dialogue with protesters and other stakeholders as a means of addressing the concerns of the masses.
In a statement signed by Susan Edionwe made available to our correspondent, the physicians say while they support the spirit and intent of the protests, they also believe in constructive dialogue and collaboration.
While expressing solidarity with those taking part in the protests, they condemned those calling for foreign actors and military takeover.
“We have reviewed the list of demands. To be clear, while we do not condone the call for foreign
actors and military takeover as portrayed by some protesters in Northern Nigeria, we strongly
agree with the need for urgent action to address hunger, the cost of living, insecurity, government
waste, police reforms, and more. These demands highlight the critical need for comprehensive and
inclusive policy reforms that can improve the quality of life for all Nigerians”.
While calling for Dialogue and engagement including with those in diaspora, policy reforms and collaborative efforts, the group gave assurance of their commitment to being part of the solution.
“NPAG is committed to being a proactive partner in this process. We offer our expertise and
resources to support efforts that aim to improve the health and well-being of Nigerians. Together,
we can build a more equitable and prosperous Nigeria. We remain hopeful that through unity,
dialogue, and cooperation, we can achieve the positive changes that our country so urgently needs”.
A ten day protest was declared from August 1st to August 10 to express the displeasure of the masses over high cost of living, high cost of governance among others
