In a bid to improve aviation safety reporting and equip journalists reporting its activities to serve the public better, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority held a two day workshop for Aviation journalists in Abuja .
The theme of the workshop which took place in Nasarawa state is ” Driving safety and security through effective regulation: The role of the media”.
A facilitator Mr Olasuunabe Azeez stressed the need for processes in aviation to be both effective and efficient adding that safety cannot be compromised seeing the harm that could result from just one accident.
He tasked the journalists to observe the professional ethics of accuracy, fairness, objectivity as well as fact checking in the process of reporting their stories
On his part, Mr Tope Jegede another facilitator urged the journalists to avoid assumptions and always source for information or crosscheck facts directly with the relevant officials of the NCAA
Participants who spoke to Newsannex said the workshop was timely and served as a refresher course which will boost delivery of their stories.
They also lauded the NCAA for the new consumer protection portal as well as other initiatives soon to be launched by the NCAA disclosed at the workshop which will ease the complaint lodging process for air passengers.
The NCAA is the regulator of the aviation sector at the national level
