A group representing the people of Northern Cross River State, Who is Who in Northern Cross River has condemned in strong terms a video on social media attributing the culture of polyandry to the people of Ogoja.
In the video, a young lady purported to be from Ogoja says she is married to two husbands and working towards marrying more husbands a practice she claims goes back several generations
The converner of WWNCR Dr Dom Cklaimz Enamhe expressed dismay in a statement made available to our correspondent.

Here’s a formal report from Dr. DC Enamhe… Greetings House :
With Sadness in my heart ,I have watched with dismay a video purportedly showing an interview with a woman claiming to be from Ogoja, married to two husbands and working towards marrying more.
I have 6 sisters from my parents and God has been kind enough to bless me with 3 girls as children Coretta-Scott ,Mitchelle-Lavaughn and Piatabuchy Hilary-Clinton and they are very precious to me and I know the ogoja man holds his girl child highly and this is not the legacy we want to bequeath to them
And on this platform we have some of the most wonderful and amazing women on earth ,I’m sure you all know
According to this Lady, it is common in Ogoja and dates back to earlier generations.
Needless to say the person in the video is obviously acting a script and has little or no knowledge of the land of Ogoja, it’s people or its language.
To start with no Ogoja person says “he left for me farms” or “no fit do for me guy”.
We have a good grasp of the English language and the form of pidgin English spoken in Ogoja has its tenses correct because the interaction with early Catholic missionaries took care of that and ofcourse unique and second to no other language
Again the names of her husband’s, Kelechukwu and Ikenna are both Ibo names and not Ogoja.
However to the best of my knowledge the said culture is not known to be part of the Ibos.
It is worrisome that in a bid to generate clicks, an individual would cast aspersions on the culture and character of the entire people of Ogoja known to be well educated with a deep rooted history of religion and culture which has instilled morality over the years.
While it would have been good to ignore this slight and allow people make their independent investigations as to the veracity of these claims, it is necessary to point out that the lady in the video parading herself as having an inheritance that enables her to acquire multiple husband’s does not come close to the average Ogoja daughter of her age who as they pride themselves in the level of education attained which is the enduring legacy Ogoja parents bequeath to their daughters
We therefore condemn totally this mudslinging on the good people of Ogoja and demand an appology from the skit maker
As Convener of this group I call on all of you to please speak up and let’s together condemn this video and all those behind it
And to call on her to do an apology
And if she doesn’t do a retraction, I will need your permission to get our legal team to do her a letter
Our children cannot be allowed to read on the internet what is not true and we must collectively condemn it
