Cross River Defections: PDP Must Remain Steadfast-Amb. Hart Modey

By Francisca Ogar

Following defection of some legislators in Cross River State from the PDP to the APC, Amb. Hart Modey has urged law makers in the state to put their constituents first irrespective of party affiliations.

Talking to our correspondent on the sidelines of his investiture as Ambassador of peace, the PDP stalwart called on the lawmakers not to let the change detail them from effective representation of their constituents .

“The political landscape in Cross River State has experienced a shake-up with the recent defection of several lawmakers from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State House of Assembly. This move has created ripples, drawing both support and criticism from different quarters. However, it is important to focus on the bigger picture and ensure that legislative duties continue without distractions”.

Amb. Modey stressed the need for the people to come first since they had in confidence voted the law makers into office.

“The essence of governance lies in serving the people effectively, and this should be a priority for all parties involved, including those making the switch from PDP to APC. While the change in party allegiance might seem like a significant shift, it should not derail the workings of the Assembly. Lawmakers, regardless of party affiliation, must work together to address key issues facing Cross River State and put the needs of their constituents first”.

Commenting on how this would impact the party, he urged members of the PDP to remain steadfast and focused.

“The PDP, known for its strong political presence, should remain steadfast and avoid unnecessary distractions. The party should focus on strategies that reinforce its standing in the state and country. Unity and a commitment to serving the public will ensure that the PDP continues to be a formidable force in Nigerian politics, irrespective of the recent defections”.

Recently, two lawmakers from the PDP had been received by the Speaker Cross River State house of assembly Hon. Elvert  Ayamben into the APC with rumours of more defections coming.
